FATF Releases Report on Combating Online Child Sexual Exploitation

The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) released a report on detecting, disrupting, and investigating, online child sexual exploitation.

The report focuses on the themes of live-streamed sexual abuse of children (LSAC) and financial sexual extortion of children.

Key indicators of transactions linked to exploitation include:

➡️ Significant age differences between remitters and receivers;

➡️ Payments made to receivers in other jurisdictions where the remitter does not seem to have a legitimate connection;

➡️ Transaction descriptions of subsistence or medical costs;

➡️ Accounts or customers that have a high volume of transactions to social media sites; and

➡️ Transactions linked to an individual on a public sex offenders registry.

✅ Firms should ensure their transaction monitoring systems are effective, incorporating the key indicators set out in the report.
