NCA Secures First Conviction for Breach of UK Sanctions

The National Crime Agency (NCA) secured the first conviction for a breach of UK sanctions.

➡️ A former Russia appointed governor of the annexed Ukrainian city Sevastopol was found guilty of circumventing sanctions after receiving £76,000 from his wife and a new Mercedes from his brother.

➡️ The individual was sanctioned under the Russia Regulations 2019.

➡️ His brother was also convicted for enabling a designated person, the first time this has occurred.

✅ Sanctions officers should carefully review their real time sanctions screening (RTSS) systems, ensuring designated persons are identified at onboarding and prevented from accessing financial services.
