Singapore's joint warning on rise of government official impersonations

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) issued a joint advisory, alongside the Singapore Police Force, warning of a rise in scams where fraudsters impersonate government officials.

MAS warns of:

  • Fraudsters exploiting the impersonation to individuals in positions of power to deceive victims into transferring money or divulging personal information; and
  • Scammers using caller ID spoofing and fabricated stories to instil fear and urgency;

Firms should review the warning to ensure their fraud prevention strategies remain robust against evolving threats.
