UK Introduces Interim Serious Crime Orders in New Border Security Bill

The UK Government announced the introduction of interim Serious Crime Prevention Orders as part of the Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Bill.

The orders aim to speed up the process for placing restrictions on those under investigation to more effectively disrupt serious crime and stem the financial flows from illicit activities;

The interim orders will allow the National Crime Agency (NCA), police, and other law enforcement agencies to apply directly to the High Court to impose immediate restrictions while a full order is considered;

Restrictions can include limitations on finances to prevent proceeds from criminal activities evading detection; and

Breaching an interim order could lead to up to 5 years in prison.
