Consumer Finance
Whether you provide secured or unsecured credit to your customers, no business is too big or too small to fall under regulatory scrutiny.
Whether your firm specialises in store cards, personal loans or second charge lending, increased scrutiny from regulators and mounting expectations for consumer protection and fair values increase the costs of compliance. Carrying out due diligence on each customer can be a time-consuming and resource-intensive task.
Although the provision of credit is generally considered to be at low risk of financial crime exploitation, criminals are finding new ways to exploit early loan repayment and overpayments to launder money. The ease of use of certain products such as store cards also makes them a target for terrorism financiers. Therefore, consumer finance providers need to protect themselves against a number of financial crime risks, including:
- Money laundering, in particular through:
- lump sum repayments
- early termination or settlement - Terrorism financing, especially through third-party payments
This makes it all the more critical for firms to have adequate financial crime controls that allow them to meet regulatory requirements, as well as conduct due diligence promptly and efficiently.
Our consumer finance experience
Plenitude has an established track record in assisting consumer finance clients to proactively assess the effectiveness of their existing Financial Crime Compliance framework, systems and controls, and implementing the required enhancements as part of S166 review or independent assessment, to mitigate the risks highlighted above. We also have supported multiple firms post regulatory review, to advise on the response plan and support the successful implementation of the required enhancements as part of a remediation or transformation programme, including large-scale KYC remediation as part of our Managed Service offering.
We have worked with a variety of institutions in the sector, from personal loans providers to store card issuers, as well as new firms seeking authorisation.
